Ten Hag fires back at Mourinho’s criticism of Man United’s support from the board

Jose Mourinho’s assertion that the Manchester United board favored Erik ten Hag more has not sat well with the current head of Red Devils. Erik ten Hag decided to respond to Jose Mourinho in light of his recent claims of being disproportionately supported by the board compared to the Dutch manager. In an interview with the Telegraph, Mourinho, who managed United for two and a half years, implied that he lacked the same level of support in the transfer market and a similar degree of “trust” as Ten Hag. Recently, the former Ajax boss discussed his failure to secure top-tier players like Harry Kane since the club prioritized younger talents such as Rasmus Hojlund. With only a year left on his current contract, Ten Hag faces an uncertain future at the club following a subpar second season. Jim Ratcliffe, the new co-owner, has not committed to retaining him next season. Ten Hag rebutted Mourinho’s assertions by pointing out that the Portuguese manager was the sole recipient of support from the board post Sir Alex Ferguson era. He emphasized the importance of acquiring desired players to achieve goals and compete effectively in the Premier League, which now features seven to eight strong contenders vying for the title. Ten Hag remains optimistic about reaching their objectives but acknowledges the fierce competition in the league.
