The death toll from the floods and other consequences of the intense rains hammering Kenya has climbed to 228, according to the interior ministry on Sunday.
The heavy rains, causing extensive flooding and landslides nationwide in recent weeks, are projected to intensify in May.

In an announcement, the ministry warned of more flooding in low-lying, riverside, and urban areas, with landslides possible in hilly areas with steep slopes, cliffs, and gullies.
The downpours have obliterated homes, roads, bridges, and other structures throughout the largest economy in East Africa.
Over 164 individuals have been wounded by the harsh weather conditions, with 212,630 forced out of their homes, as per the ministry’s report.
